Some phishing scam emails copy every aspect of genuine emails they’re supposed to be aping, even if that means including PayPal’s special section telling you to watch out for phishing scams. Some of them just rely on you believing everything you read in a well-written, text-only email with a convincing looking link at the bottom.
Others, however, are like this:

Well, quite. Rest assured I’ll be handing over my login details post haste!
Update: Whoa – the text is screwed in Firefox/Thunderbird but for some reason it’s magically rearranged to make sense in Internet Explorer. Freaky control codes ahoy – I’ve removed them for your viewing pleasure, but I suppose this scam isn’t quite as stupid as it would seem! :~
I must admit, I often get curious about how my visitors happen across this site, especially when they seem to pop up from nowhere. Should I know this person? Are they perhaps someone I wronged in a past life, or some kind of deranged fan? Or is there a more rational explanation? I suspect so, but that doesn’t mean I know what it is!
In an attempt to answer this question, I cracked open the server logs for the first time in ages. Among the more interesting findings…
- Some Welshie who shall remain nameless is such a fanboy, they have their copy of Thunderbird firing requests at my RSS every minute. That’s dedication! That’s also a great way to fill my logs. :~
- Some bloke on a German forum decided to link to my Melee Island 3D trailer, making my bandwidth usage rocket for one day only in the process. Hooray?
- People consistently arrive here looking for Consolevania, even though what they’re looking for is the top result on Google and this site is pages back! Are the Consolevania boys possibly being a bit vain, or are people on the internet that stupid? Actually, don’t answer that.
My only regret is I don’t get the array of silly Google queries that Remi seems to get. Maybe in time, eh? Maybe in time. If I can be arsed updating more than once a month.
